Pechersk: VAZ driver failed to yield to BMW — pedestrian killed

A fatal traffic accident occurred in Kyiv's Pecherskyi district: a VAZ driver failed to yield to a BMW, after which one of the vehicles drove onto the sidewalk and hit a pedestrian.

The victim sustained injuries incompatible with life — he died before reaching the hospital, in an ambulance.

Details of the incident are still being clarified: police are working at the scene, identifying the drivers and establishing the circumstances under which the VAZ driver failed to comply with the requirement to yield to the vehicle with right of way.

This case is another in a long list of deaths at Kyiv intersections, where violations of right-of-way rules become a death sentence for those who were not behind the wheel of either vehicle. According to the Traffic Police statistics, failure to comply with intersection rules remains one of the three most common causes of fatal traffic accidents in the capital.

The question that opens after each such incident: will the practice of actual punishment for guilty drivers change — or will the case end in a suspended sentence again?
