What happened
On March 24 Moldova declared a state of emergency in the energy sector after a drone strike damaged the 400 kV Isaccea – Vulcănești transmission line. This, citing government reports and Newsmaker, was said by Energy Minister Dorin Jungietu.
What aid is being provided and why it matters
Ukrenergo agreed to provide technical support to restore the severed conductors. According to the minister, repair work may take 5–7 days. Such assistance has two key components: the rapid restoration of electricity consumption in Moldova and a demonstration of practical cooperation between power systems in times of crisis.

Consequences and risks
In case of a generation shortfall, operator Moldelectrica said it would turn to neighboring operators for help under bilateral agreements. If assistance proves insufficient, temporary outages are possible in the country. The government has already approved measures to reduce consumption: lighting will be cut by at least 30%, and decorative and advertising light sources will be restricted.
This is the second recent case in which Russian strikes on Ukraine have had critical consequences for Moldova: earlier, as a result of shelling of the Novodnistrovsk HPP, petroleum products entered the Dniester, which also affected the water supply for part of Moldova.
