Warehouse fire in Solomianskyi District: more than 40 rescuers battled an 800 m² blaze

What happened

A three-story warehouse building caught fire in the Solomianskyi District of Kyiv. According to the State Emergency Service and a UNN journalist, the fire affected about 800 m². Preliminary reports indicate the blaze is not related to Russian shelling; there is currently no information about any casualties.

Response by emergency services

Rescuers are operating at an elevated response level: more than 40 people and 10 units of equipment are involved on site. According to the spokesperson, the fire had spread to the roof before units arrived, which complicated extinguishing efforts and required additional resources.

As of now, we are operating at an elevated response level. We have 10 units of equipment on site, as well as just over 40 rescuers. At the moment, the area of the fire is 800 m².

— Pavlo Petrov, spokesperson for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine

Why this matters

Even when a fire is not linked to shelling, such incidents increase the burden on emergency services and can potentially affect urban logistics and infrastructure. Warehouses may contain materials that amplify risks — therefore prompt investigations and preventive measures are critically important.

Context

The incident occurred against the backdrop of a nighttime strike on Kyiv on January 5, when a medical facility in the Obolonskyi District was hit: according to official State Emergency Service data, one person was killed and three were injured. In such situations, fast and transparent communications from rescue services help prevent panic and coordinate response efforts.

Current situation

Rescuers continue work to extinguish the fire. An official report from the State Emergency Service on causes and damages is expected. Kyiv residents are advised to follow updates from rescue services and comply with their instructions.

EU Against Google: Why the Latest Fine Could Change More Than Previous Ones

# European Regulators Target Google Again — This Time Over Digital Markets Act Violations. What's Behind the Accusations and Why It Matters Beyond the Corporation European regulators have renewed their scrutiny of Google, this time focusing on alleged violations of the Digital Markets Act. The charges underscore Brussels' increasingly aggressive stance on big tech monopolies and what officials say are anticompetitive practices. The accusations center on how Google leverages its dominance across multiple digital services — from search to advertising to mobile platforms — to disadvantage competitors. Regulators claim the company is using its market power in ways that stifle innovation and limit consumer choice. The case carries significance far beyond Google itself. It signals how the EU is attempting to enforce its landmark Digital Markets Act, legislation designed to curb the gatekeeping power of tech giants. A potential penalty could set precedent for how other large technology companies face similar scrutiny. For consumers and smaller tech firms, the outcome could reshape the digital landscape by creating more room for competition. For Google, fines and operational restrictions could fundamentally alter its business model in Europe, the world's most stringent regulatory market. The case also reflects a broader geopolitical divide, with the EU pursuing a regulatory approach that contrasts sharply with the lighter-touch oversight favored in the United States.
