Drunk Tesla driver kills 13-year-old girl at crosswalk in Kyiv

In Kyiv’s Obolon district, a 23-year-old electric car driver, allegedly intoxicated, fatally struck a 13-year-old girl on a pedestrian crossing. The man was detained and charged; the court ordered pretrial detention.

Location and circumstances

"The traffic accident occurred last Friday at about 21:15 in the Obolon district. The 23-year-old electric car driver, while descending from the bridge from Bohatyrska Street toward Obolon Avenue, ran over a 13-year-old girl who was crossing the road at an unregulated crossing. The victim died at the scene."

– Kyiv Police

According to the account of the incident, the driver was traveling from the Bohatyrska side down the bridge toward the avenue when he struck the child. The victim died from her injuries at the scene.

Actions by law enforcement

The suspect was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. By outward signs he appeared to be intoxicated, but he refused to undergo a Dräger breathalyzer test.

Investigators are awaiting the results of forensic examinations. Under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, the man was notified of suspicion under part 3 of Article 286‑1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of road traffic safety rules by a person in a state of intoxication that caused death.

At the investigators' request, the court ordered the suspect held in pretrial detention. For the charged criminal act he faces up to ten years in prison.

Parallel case

Separately, proceedings continue in another high-profile case concerning a fatal traffic accident involving a former prosecutor’s office employee; the prosecution under Attorney General Kravchenko is seeking a 10-year prison sentence for the defendant.

EU Against Google: Why the Latest Fine Could Change More Than Previous Ones

# European Regulators Target Google Again — This Time Over Digital Markets Act Violations. What's Behind the Accusations and Why It Matters Beyond the Corporation European regulators have renewed their scrutiny of Google, this time focusing on alleged violations of the Digital Markets Act. The charges underscore Brussels' increasingly aggressive stance on big tech monopolies and what officials say are anticompetitive practices. The accusations center on how Google leverages its dominance across multiple digital services — from search to advertising to mobile platforms — to disadvantage competitors. Regulators claim the company is using its market power in ways that stifle innovation and limit consumer choice. The case carries significance far beyond Google itself. It signals how the EU is attempting to enforce its landmark Digital Markets Act, legislation designed to curb the gatekeeping power of tech giants. A potential penalty could set precedent for how other large technology companies face similar scrutiny. For consumers and smaller tech firms, the outcome could reshape the digital landscape by creating more room for competition. For Google, fines and operational restrictions could fundamentally alter its business model in Europe, the world's most stringent regulatory market. The case also reflects a broader geopolitical divide, with the EU pursuing a regulatory approach that contrasts sharply with the lighter-touch oversight favored in the United States.
