8000 mAh for a budget price: OnePlus Turbo 6X Pro — flagship battery in mid-range body

OnePlus has released two smartphones in China with batteries that were previously a privilege of power banks — and packed them into devices priced around $235. The question is not about capacity, but whether this battery will last the claimed six years.

On June 10, OnePlus officially presented the Turbo 6X series in China — two smartphones where the main selling point is not the processor or camera, but the battery. The base Turbo 6X received a battery of 7000 mAh, while the senior model Turbo 6X Pro got 8000 mAh. For context: the iPhone 16 Pro Max has 4685 mAh, and the flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra has 5000 mAh.

What's Inside

Both devices run on the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Super chip (4 nm, 8 cores) — this is the mid-range segment, not a flagship. The Turbo 6X Pro received a 6.78-inch Samsung AMOLED display (M14 matrix) with 1.5K resolution, 144 Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 6500 nits. The base Turbo 6X has a 6.72-inch LCD Full HD+ with the same refresh rate.

Fast charging: 45W in the base version and 80W in Pro. According to the manufacturer, a full charge of 8000 mAh takes about 70 minutes. Both devices support reverse wired charging and bypass mode — direct power without load on the battery during gaming or video.

Protection and Software

The Turbo 6X Pro received four levels of water protection at once: IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K — the latter means resistance to jets of hot water under pressure. The device also passed seven military certifications for durability. On board is ColorOS 16; OnePlus promises six years of smooth system operation and the same battery longevity.

"Six years of battery health" — a marketing record for a mid-range smartphone. Apple guarantees 80% capacity after 500 cycles, Samsung after 800. OnePlus does not specify how many cycles this promise covers.

Price and Market

The starting price of Turbo 6X Pro is 1699 yuan (≈$235), the base Turbo 6X is around 1000 yuan (≈$140). Both are currently only available in the Chinese market. However, as noted by Sunday Guardian Live, OnePlus has a practice of rebranding the Turbo series under the name Nord for Indian and international markets — so a global release under a different name is quite possible.

  • Turbo 6X: LCD 6.72" FHD+ 144 Hz, Dimensity 7400 Super, 6/8/12 GB RAM, 128–512 GB, 7000 mAh, 45W, ~$140
  • Turbo 6X Pro: AMOLED 6.78" 1.5K 144 Hz, Dimensity 7400 Super, 12 GB RAM, 256 GB, 8000 mAh, 80W, IP69K, ~$235

If OnePlus truly brings these devices to the global market under the Nord brand and maintains the price category — competitors like Samsung's A-series or Xiaomi Redmi Note will have to either increase battery capacity or find another argument: 8000 mAh for $235 is hard to ignore.
